Dua Lipa, the popular pop star known for her Һiт song “New Rules,” is set to undergo a significant transformation of her Hampstead home in North London. After a long planning baттℓe, the Grammy Award-winning singer has obtained permission for a basement extension and the replacement of the rear extension in her detached house, located in one of the most desirable avenues in the area.
Having grown up and attended school near Hampstead Heath, Dua Lipa purchased the Victorian property for £6.75 million in early 2020. During the first Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, she shared glimpses of the house on Instagram, showcasing a beautifully marbled and mirrored bathroom, a well-equipped contemporary kitchen, and moments of fun with her then-boyfriend, Anwar Hadid, in the living room overlooking the garden.
Feeling the need for a change after spending extensive time at home during the lockdowns, Dua Lipa submitted plans in the summer of 2021 for a complete renovation of her Arts and Crafts-style house. The proposed changes, designed by 4M Group, include a basement excavation to create a hidden swimming pool, a steam room, a shower, a changing room, a cinema, and a studio. Additionally, there will be dedicated workspaces in the basement to separate work activities from the rest of the house.
The plans also involve removing the existing rear extension and constructing a new family room. The design features clay tiles on the exterior walls and a green roof. The revamped home will comprise three bedrooms on two upper floors, along with various living spaces on the ground level, including a library, a drawing room, and an open-plan area that combines the kitchen, the garden room, and the dining area.
Despite objections from the Redington Frognal Neighbourhood Forum regarding the impact on the local conservation area, Camden Council approved the project earlier this year. Basement excavations have been a contentious issue in Camden, with concerns about subsidence, flooding, and construction disturbances raised by residents living near such developments. However, Dua Lipa’s plans have received the green light, and she is now set to transform her Hampstead home into a stunning and personalized space that reflects her unique style and taste.
