Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance’ film topped the U.S box office after only one week of release
The concert movie outperformed Godzilla Minus One and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes in its first weekend of release.
According to Deadline, Beyoncé’s Renaissance is the top film in the United States this weekend. This weekend, the movie brought in $22 million at the box office, surpassing both Godzilla Minus One ($11 million) and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes ($14.5 million), which were at No. 2 in their third week.
It’s a promising start to what is usually a quiet post-Thanksgiving week for the cinema. Compared to the same weekend last year, box office receipts increased by 76%. Tom Cruise’s The Last Samurai made $24.3 million on its opening weekend in December, making it the largest opening weekend box office.
Songs from Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour are used in the film, along with unexpected cameos by Kendrick Lamar and Megan Thee Stallion. During the credits, a brand-new song named “My House” that was just published on streaming services on Friday was heard.
AMC, the distributor of Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, allegedly provided some advice to fervent Beyoncé fans who attended Renaissance screenings. The guidelines said, “You know the songs, you know the dances—sing and dance your heart out, but please respect each other’s space along with the theater equipment.” “Please refrain from dancing on seats or obstructing other patrons’ views, safe passage, or exit from the auditorium.” Another message instructed spectators to take off any headgear and wings, among other “parts of your outfit [that] will potentially block other viewers from the screen.”
This year’s biggest concert movie weekend comes just after Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour movie. The largest opening weekend for a concert movie to date was achieved by Swift’s production.
