Metallica announces the winners of the marching band competition
The 25 finalists for Whom The Band Tolls, Metallica’s marching band competition, have been revealed. More than 450 high schools and universities competed for a portion of $150,000 in prize money.
Launched earlier this year, Metallica has revealed the winners of its first-ever For Whom The Band Tolls marching band competition.
The band’s 1984 song “For Whom The Bell Tolls” has the phrase, “Time marches on, for whom the bells tolls.” They also asked marching bands from schools and colleges to compete to provide the “most exciting, unique, and impressive performances of some of the band’s most beloved songs,” but it took them over 40 years to conceive of this.
Following the competition’s announcement in April, more than 450 US high schools and universities joined in an attempt to split the $150,000 in prize money. As of right now, the final 25 marching bands in five categories have been revealed.
A top-tier college band will get the $75,000 top prize. A college band that ranks lower will earn $40,000. Each of the three size-based divisions for high school bands is competing for $15,000. $10,000 awards are also awarded to the college and high school bands that the public chooses.
Metalica will choose the ultimate prize winners in each category, according to the competition website, even though a team of expert judges chose the finalists. Based on online voting by fans, the categories that are most popular with them will be chosen.
The first week of January will see the announcement of the ultimate winners.
