Linkin Park comeback with their first new album to chart in 5 years
Since the death of lead vocalist and leader Chester Bennington in 2017, Linkin Park’s future has been unclear. The band hasn’t spoken anything in the years since his death. With their first newly released album to chart for five years, they are back on the Billboard charts.
This week, Linkin Park returns to the Billboard charts with Lost recordings, an album that is, as its name implies, a collection of completely realized songs from their Meteora period recordings. The rockers released the song on vinyl for Record Store Day; before, it was only available in a deluxe edition box set of that album. Their devoted fan base flocked to support the band once again.
Luminate reports that Lost Demos sold 8,500 copies over the previous monitoring period. Given that it was just recently released on the recently popular format, vinyl sales seem to account for the majority, if not all, of that total.
The album barely makes an appearance on the Billboard 200, which is a weekly list of the most popular albums and EPs in the United States. Linkin Park’s sixteenth success on the significant chart, Lost Demos, debuts at No. 191 on the 200-spot list.
Additionally, the new release makes it to the Vinyl Albums and Top Album Sales rankings. It is ranked No. 26 on the former, placing the band at sixteenth position. This time, Linkin Park ranks third among all debuts, after The Doors and Busta Rhymes.
The Vinyl Albums list places Lost Demos at No. 14, which is the title’s highest ranking this week. Only four times to far has Linkin Park made it to that level, with the majority of their victories occurring in the last several years. It receives the second-highest start of the frame based on that total. The rock group is only surpassed by Mac Miller, whose Watching Movies with the Sound Off debuts at No. 6 with a higher opening.
This week, Linkin Park also makes its debut on three rock-only Billboard charts, and Lost Demos does well when it does. The limited edition album debuts at No. 10 on the list of the best hard rock albums, No. 23 on the list of the best alternative albums, and No. 43 on the list of the best rock and alternative albums combined. Being one of the most successful rock bands of the past 25 years or more, the band is used to such lists.
