Metallica on how their children continue the music: ‘They’re Definitely Doing It Their Way’
“If you have a passion for music, and you believe in yourself, do it and do it soon”
Even though Metallica has been around for more than 40 years, most of the band members would probably tell you that their kids are their best works. And if the forthcoming release of 72 Seasons makes the metal band more important than ever, their offspring have been making waves in the music business lately.
At the age of 18, Tye, the son of bassist Robert Trujillo, is already a seasoned musician since he joined Korn at the age of 12. The gifted four-string player has also played in many of his own bands, such as the recently published record OTTTO, an up-and-coming group. Lullah, Tye’s 16-year-old sister, is a drummer, pianist, and bassist. She recently rocked the Whisky a Go Go’s “Ultimate Jam Night” with her parents, Chloe and Dad.
The 24-year-old Myles and the 21-year-old Layne, the oldest sons of drummer Lars Ulrich, are receiving recognition for their garage-rock style as Taipei Houston, which is evocative of bands like The White Stripes, The Black Keys, and Royal Blood. Castor, the 22-year-old son of frontman James Hetfield, is a drummer with the band Bastardane. Meanwhile, Vincenzo and Angel, the adolescent kids of guitarist Kirk Hammett, are also musicians, but they are currently less well-known.
