Angus Young became the richest AC/DC member, possessing enormous wealth but being lonely in old age
As AC/DC’s wealthiest member, Angus Young amassed an enormous fortune that left fans envious.
Jakarta – The wealthiest member of AC/DC is Angus Young. He has been a member of the group since its inception and has contributed lyrics to some of their best successes.
Cliff Williams and Brian Johnson are two more members with substantial wealth, but they haven’t been able to overtake Angus as of yet.
Even though Sony purchased the music rights in 2021, AC/DC is still performing and earning milliоns of dollars annually.
The members of AC/DC have changed many times since the group was founded in 1973. The only member of the original founding group to remain alive since its formation was Angus, who also served as lead guitarist.
However, internal issues do not necessarily result in the organization losing members. A number of AC/DC members, including Bon Scott in 1980, Malcolm Young in 2017, and Paul Matters in 2020, left the band because of health issues.
But for years thereafter, they kept going, adding new members—some of whom even came out and then returned.
But out of all of them, Angus is the wealthiest member, which should come as no surprise considering how much he has put in AC/DC over the years.
Alongside the late Malcolm, Angus helped form AC/DC in 1973. Dave Evans, Colin Allah, and Larry Van Kriedt were the other members of the group at the time. With a net worth of 160 million US dollars, it makes sense that Angus is the wealthiest member of AC/DC, having been a member since the band’s founding.
Angus contributed lyrics to some of AC/DC’s greatest singles. The group’s major hits, Highway to Һell, earned Bon Scott, Malcolm, and Angus a joint trophy.
The primary hits from the enormously successful album Back in Black, including You Shоck Me All Night Long and Hells Bells, were co-written by Brian Johnson, Angus, and Malcolm.
Clearly, over time, these significant credits contribute to members’ income growth. However, what is the net worth of all present and previous members of AC/DC?
Cliff Williams and Brian Johnson have not been able to equal Angus’s enormous net worth, but they are still quite wealthy. By 2023, Cliff is expected to be worth $100 million, while Brian will be worth $90.5 million. The value of other members, past and present, is much less.
For example, since 2014, Iod Young, the guitarist and backing singer for AC/DC, has only amassed 1-4 US dollars in fortune. Considering the abundance of AC/DC songs from the band’s history, this makes sense.
Angus’s value is less than a third that of his bandmates, such as Phil Rudd, who has been with AC/DC since 1975 and is worth around 50 million US dollars. The three surviving members of the original AC/DC lineup, who made their debut with Angus, each had a net worth of little more than $5 million US.
It seems that songwriting credits have a major role in determining each band member’s long-term income, although song ownership and possession could also affect AC/DC earnings.
It also influences the music that the band wishes to perform; for example, Brian Johnson won’t play a song that he believes best represents the late Bon Scott.
Malcolm Young was worth $100 million US dollars when he passed away in 2017. Malcolm is one of the wealthiest members of AC/DC and has a large writing credit history over many albums. Nonetheless, it seems reasonable that Malcolm’s possessions would be somewhat connected to Angus’s wealth considering that he is Angus’ elder brother.
It is presumed that Malcolm’s wife and two children received his estate, even if it is unknown how musical ownership would affect the inheritance’s potential future earnings.
Many independent bands and artists sell their catalogs after experiencing financial difficulties. Tina Turner made $50 million from the sale of her library, rapper Nelly made money from the sale of her catalog, and Fleetwood Mac’s Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham also sold their song rights.
That being said, AC/DC is not covered by this. As of 2023, the band continues to travel and play often with The Rolling Stones, reportedly holding the music rights under the family label, Alberts.
But according to Billboard, Sony acquired the band’s music rights in 2021 as a result of a collaboration with Alberts. According to the agreement, Sony Music Publishing would “provide new opportunities for AC/DC.”
Although it’s uncertain what opportunities could present themselves, the fact that the band is still touring and making a ton of money is encouraging. As a group, the band is reportedly worth over $10 million annually, and in the past, certain years (such as those when they went on tour) brought in more than 177 million US dollars for AC/DC.
Nothing should be made fun of after decades in this field, particularly when the band’s current members get the majority of the earnings.
