Linkin Park unveiled a previously unreleased song in over a decade to debut at No. 1 on Billboard’s Rock & Alternative Airplay chart

Linkin Park may be done as a band—or at least that’s how it seems for the time being—but their music has barely diminished in popularity, at least in certain circles. This week, the rock group’s first major single doesn’t just return to one Billboard chart, it finds its way back to its highest-ever placement on a pair of rankings published by the company.

Billboard ranks the most-streamed tunes in the U.S. labeled as “alternative,” though that genre definer is a bit vague. The single has previously topped out in that position back in October 2020.

Linkin Park earns the loftiest return to the Alternative Streaming Songs chart this time around, though it’s not the only entrant that wasn’t on the list last frame. The rock band joins with fellow returning wins from musicians like Cigarettes After Sex’s “Apocalypse” (No. 24) and Taylor Swift’s “August” (No. 25). Noah Kahan blasts onto the ranking with his new No. 1, “Stick Season.”

While they are one of the most successful hard rock acts of the past few decades, Billboard only instituted the ranking after they stopped making music, so it’s not shocking that they haven’t performed better. All four of their placements on the tally have cracked the top 10, with only “Lost” reaching the No. 1 spot.
