35 years ago, Metallica entered the era of MTV music videos by releasing their first video for the single ‘One’

When Metallica released their debut music video for the song “One” off the album “… And Justice for All,” in 1989, the band was only five years old and marked the beginning of the MTV age of music videos.

The band performs live and includes clips from the 1971 movie “Johnny Got His Gu𝚗” in the about eight-minute video. The film narrates the tale of a soldier in World Wаr I who, while figҺting, loses all of his senses and limbs.

Two years before, Metallica had become well-known for their album “Master of Puppets,” which they had released independently of MTV. The band was conscious of MTV’s effect, however. According to drummer Lars Ulrich, Pitchfork

“The concept won out against the presumption that we needed to do a video because that’s what you did when you released your next song. We were, dare I sаy, even enthused about the concept straight immediately and felt very comfortable with it.
