Kirk Hammett’s Metallica reveals: ‘We wanted to create an effort that was bigger than AC/DC’s ‘Back In Black’

The main guitarist for the heavy metal group Metallica since 1983, Kirk Hammett, recently spoke about the Black Album period of the band alongside bandmate Lars Ulrich and shared never-before-seen details about it in an interview with Uncut Magazine.

Elektra Records published “The Black Album,” which is also the band’s self-titled album, on August 12, 1991. The reality that Kirk Hammett disclosed hasn’t been made public until this publication.

Kirk Hammett de Metallica : "J'ai été obnubilé par AC/DC presque toute ma vie"Regarding the group’s self-titled record, sometimes known as the “Black Album,” According to Kirk Hammett, the record was difficult to produce since they wаnted to create something original and never had written anything like it before. Kirk later acknowledged that he is the first to bring this up and said that Metallica was inspired to create AC/DC’s legendary song “Back in Black.”

Kirk Hammett said, “It wasn’t easy to make because we wаnted a certain sound on that album.” I’ll probably be the first to sаy this, but we went in and wаnted to create a ‘Back In Black,’ an LP packed with singles. We wаnted everything to be as good as it could be, sound-wise, song-wise, and performance-wise. Songs that sound like singles but aren’t were the idea.

Later on, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, who is also in his band, added his confirmation.

Lars Ulrich said, “We sat down and thought about The Stones, AC/DC, and the Misfits.” We discussed the craft of songwriting shorter songs and making them simpler. Short songs are more difficult to create than large songs, because they need more succinctness. Composing shorter tunes was the new challenge. To make the music seem more bоdily rather than intellectual, add a bit extra bounce.

The Black Album, which the Grammy Award-winning heavy metal band Metallica played at European festivals in 2012, was well-liked by fans.
