Metallica’s Kirk Hammett owns an ancient mansion with a view stretching out to the Pacific Ocean, where he enjoys a happy life with his wife of more than 2 decades

Kirk Hammett of Metallica advertised one of his two nearby residences in the Sea Cliff district of San Francisco late last year. He is now seeking $13 million for the second one that he has listed for sale.

According to SF Gate, Hammett was seeking $16 million for 320 Sea Cliff Ave. last year and has now lowered the asking price by $3 million. The home at 308 Sea Cliff Ave. sold for $12.8 million in March. Hammett is once again represented by Mark Levinson of Pacific Union.

Levinson compared it as being on vacation to the paper. It’s similar to visiting Carmel or Big Sur. Everything revolves around the vista. Everything revolves around the ocean’s sound. It’s captivating. You are unable to avoid it.”

The images below demonstrate that Levinson is not joking. Picture windows on every level, including the master bathroom, provide breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, the Marin Headlands, and Land’s End at China Beach from this three-story, 5,200-square-foot house. There are four bedrooms and four and a half baths, a sunken living room, a spacious family room, a refurbished kitchen with granite countertops, a wide island, and two ovens and dishwashers, and a wrought iron chandelier inside. Parts of Hammett’s renowned collection of vintage horror movie posters are also displayed on the walls.

The description of the property can be seen on its website, where you can also watch a video tour. “This magnificent private gated estate is perched high on the cliffs in San Francisco’s highly desirable Sea Cliff, an enclave greatly sought by discriminating home buyers who want nothing but the best,” the listing says. “Built in 1926, the home’s vibrant tile work, red-tiled rooflines and turrets express the height of the 1920s Spanish Mediterranean period. … With its grand curved staircase, classic dining and living rooms, beautifully remodeled kitchen, large family room opening up to an exquisite terrace and more, this home offers privacy, elegance and comfortable family living.”
