Jason Newsted calls out ‘idiots’ who criticize the drumming of Lars Ulrich: ‘They have no idea what they’re talking about’

Jason Newsted has sprang to Lars’s defense, his former bandmate from Metallica.

Jason Newsted, the former bassist for Metallica, called people “idiots” for taking the time to criticize drummer Lars Ulrich. This week, on May 8, in an interview with the Let There Be Talk podcast (episode #696), Newsted is questioned about the notion that Ulrich is a “average” drummer.

“Anybody who says that is a fuckιng idiot,” Newsted replies. “They’re talking about things they don’t know about. How deep this man was, how wise he was, how much he understood about what the heck was going on when he was 21, 22, 23. Really?

 

“Whatever the fucƙ you choose for today, if he can’t play the same fill as Dave Lombardo, then what? Mamafucker, look at the scoreboard. Never again bring up that man. I swear to you that he is much superior to you in the majority of areas. There’s no way Metallica would have been what they were if it weren’t for him and his capacity to foresee, foretell, comprehend geography, identify which nation and which place, and know what happened when. Not at all! It’s important for you to take responsibility for your actions, since it involves more than simply being able to bаng a snare drum.
