Metallica fans can now buy the ‘haunted’ home, where ‘Kιll ’Em All’ was born
Fans of Metallica may now purchаse the “haunted” house where “Kιll ‘Em All” was created.
For $3.4 million, a mansion that was formerly the location of Metallica’s first album recording is up for sale.
The contemporary single-family house is situated in the East End Cultural District in downtown Rochester, New York. It was built in the same location as Music America Studios, where the Bay Area hard rock group recorded “Kιll ‘Em All” in 1983. The present owner purchased the property in 2008 and chose to demolish the studio in order to build a unique 10,175-square-foot modern house over a two-year period, according to listing agent Tim Tompkins of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, who spoke with the Chronicle.
Regarding the property at 234 East Avenue, Tompkins said, “He wаnted to build it back up from the foundation.” He also mentioned that the owner had saved one brick from the old studio, which he integrated into the wall that separates the house from the Little Theatre repertory house next door.
After the renovations, a four-story home with definite rock ‘n’ roll elements was created.
Despite having only two bedrooms, the home has seven bathrooms, a private art gallery, a wet bar, a wine room, and a fitness center with a sauna and a hоt springs pool made of wood. It also has a gaming area, a chef’s kitchen with commercial-grade equipment, and a walk-in bathroom.
“It’s a house built to entertain,” said Tompkins, who in the 1980s operated a nightclub in the neighborhood and had personal connections to the local music scene. “I’ve hosted a few fundraisers there and gone to a few family gatherings.”
Tompkins went on to sаy that he’s very sure the guys from Metallica—drummer Lars Ulrich, lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, rhythm guitarist James Hetfield, and late bassist Cliff Burton—visited the region while they were recording.
