Jason Newsted stated that he has ‘never’ listened to a Metallica album after his departure from the band, explaining, ‘No disrespect, but I didn’t get it’
Jason Newsted, former bassist of Metallica, revealed in a recent interview with Louder that he has never listened to a Metallica album released after he left the band. Reflecting on his experience, he mentioned hearing one song from the album “St. Anger” while riding in the car with his father in Michigan. However, he admitted that he didn’t quite understand the direction the band took with their music after his departure.
While Newsted remаins open to reuniting with Metallica if the opportunity arose, he emphasized his respect for Lars Ulrich and expressed gratitude for Ulrich’s support of his solo work. Ultimately, Newsted indicated that he would consider rejoining Metallica if approached by Ulrich, but he is uncertain about doing so for anyone else.
Newsted expressed his respect for Metallica’s musical talent, particularly noting James Hetfield’s skill on the guitar and the band’s energy. However, he acknowledged that he has moved away from that style of music and now prefers to sing and play bass differently. Despite this, he still maintains a fondness for heavy music, including bands like Sepultura.
Newsted’s contributions to Metallica were recognized when he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fаme with the band in 2009.
