Jason Newsted, ex-Metallica member, receives many offers for ‘musical collaborations’ but he says: ‘There is no better choice than Metallica’

Even now, Jason Newsted says he is “very picky about those proposals these days,” although he still gets offers for “music collaborations.”

Former METALLICA bassist Jason Newsted was questioned about his ambitions, projects, and general daily activities during an appearance on the 24th edition of “The Metallica Report,” a freshly created podcast that provides weekly insider updates on all things METALLICA. “So this is the first time in my adult life, probably about 40 years or so, that I didn’t have something pending, such as a tour or recording session or art exhibit or something like that,” he said, according to BLABBERMOUTH.NET’s transcription. And I’m only now giving myself permission to really savor the day. I like eating lunch out a lot. I go out and grab a drink with someone, yeah, and all that sort of stuff, but this is the first time in my adult life that I’ve genuinely gotten inside my head and done myself a favor. I know it seems strange, but I’m actually really loving these types of little things.

Jason Newsted says he's "so frickin' proud" of Metallica

That kind of stuff is all I’m trying to do, simply trying to be something more typical. Although I am aware that it will never be possible to go completely, I am appreciating the somewhat simpler things that are happening. It is thus quite different today to repurpose — literally, to repurpose yourself — since purpose is, in my opinion, the most crucial factor of all. It will take a moment as I attempt to find it out. However, I now have to fill in certain gaps with other things. I don’t necessarily need to fill these gaps with a serious project that requires that sort of application; instead, I need to fill the gap left by not having a show or anything to work toward. To take a moment to step back and view it from a fresh perspective after spending more than 20 years away from [METALLICA], as well as to see how much of an impact I’m having on my little ball of clay, since I entered that as a green and naive young man, was to give myself a break.

Jason Newsted is forming a new band and returning to metal

Yes, I had my skills, but other than that, I didn’t really understand the world or anything like that, guy. For better or worse, when I look back on it now, there are some things that I will never be able to change because of how quickly I had to rise from being essentially nothing and trying really hard to kind of skidding fucƙιng guy to suԀԀenly this, in a very short period of time, a global star, as it were — not my terms, just what they call it. That would undoubtedly prevent me from returning to college, as I never did.

It’s almost like going back to the period, when I was eighteen and opted to play bass instead, when my father had definitely expected me to go Michigan State University. However, I didn’t. Rather, I traveled to California to play bass (or rather, to Arizona). Thus, I would answer, “Yes, it’s similar to returning to college, but I never did.”

Why Did Jason Newsted Leave Metallica in 2001?

Newsted continued by saying that he goes all in when it comes to taking stock of his life.

“I find great value, great meaning in figuring these things out,” he said. “I believe that allowing oneself to savor the little things that you missed throughout the hectic years has some very priceless benefits. Additionally, I make an effort to create something visual four or five times a week. I’ll dedicate a few hours to a painting or drawing that I’m working on. Usually, I like to produce on the day and finish anything I start in the many hours I spend working on it throughout that awake time. And there concludes the article; just sign it, and you’re done, although I do stick with it. Like playing the guitar and other instruments, it’s a perishable ability. Thus, I also make an effort to maintain my chops.”

Metallica Initiated Jason Newsted Into the Band With Two Pranks

In its first week of release, NEWSTED’s only full-length album, “Heavy Metal Music,” sold close to 8,000 copies in the US, placing it at number 40 on the Billboard 200 list. In August 2013, Spinefarm Records released the CD in Europe and Chophouse Records/Collective Sounds released it in North America.

In 2009, bassist Robert Trujillo, who replaced Jason, along with guitarist/vocalist James Hetfield, drummer Lars Ulrich, guitarist Kirk Hammett, and guitarist Jason departed METALLICA in 2001, were all inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fаme.
