James Hetfield of METALLICA pays tribute to Marsha Zazula: ‘She Was Our Mother When I Had None’

We were saddened to hear about the passing of Marsha Zazula, co-founder of Megaforce Records, at the age of 68. Tributes have begun pouring in, and one band that owes a great deal to Marsha is Metallica. James Hetfield recently released a heartfelt tribute in her honor.

The Metallica frontman wrote, “Marsha Z is the Metal Matriarch of the East Coast. She was our mother when I had none. She made great sacrifices for Metallica to grow. Thank you, Marsha. Love and positive energy to the Zazula family.”

James Hetfield’s mother, Cynthia, passed away when he was in the 11th grade due to cаncer. She chose not to undergo treatment for the cаncer due to her religious beliefs.

Earlier this weekend, Lars Ulrich also posted a touching tribute on his Instagram, expressing gratitude to Marsha for her support, encouragement, advice, and hospitality, and for believing in the potential of Metallica to connect with a larger audience.

Anthrax also paid tribute to Marsha, acknowledging her and her husband Jonny Z’s pioneering role in the metal industry and the impact they had on their lives. They expressed gratitude for their belief and dedication to metal and extended their love to her family.
