‘I found the sound of intense art hidden behind the paintings’ – Jason Newsted, Metallica’s ex-bassist, turned art gallery business in Lake Worth
Metallica’s former bassist, Jason Newsted, renowned for his thunderous bass lines, is now channeling his energy through a different medium: painting. His latest exhibit, Rawk – The Art of Jason Newsted, showcasing his paintings and sculptures, is on display until February 3rd at the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County in downtown Lake Worth.
Newsted describes his paintings as embodying the essence of music, stating, “The paintings look like the music sounds.” He attributes the synergy between his art and music to a direct transference of his hands, heart, and brain. Like his music, his art encompasses a wide range of emotions, from vibrant colors to heavy themes, from beauty to melancholy.
In his artistic endeavor, Newsted aims to transmit the same electrifying energy that defines his music. He draws parallels between the exhilarating exchange of energy at live metal shows and the connection he seeks to establish with viewers through his art. He describes his solo project as a means to unleash and share that energy with the audience, inviting them to experience his art and absorb his vitality.
Moreover, Newsted’s commitment to giving back to the community is evident as he pledges a portion of the proceeds from his artwork sales to support organizations such as the Cultural Council, Little Kids Rock, and the Perry J. Cohen Foundation. Through his art, Newsted not only expresses himself but also contributes to meaningful causes, further enriching his creative journey.
