Wearing No. 21, Rangers’ Jake Burger aims to raise Down Syndrome awareness while honoring his newborn daughter

Rangers’ Jake Burger will sport No. 21 to highlight Down Syndrome awareness and honor his new daughter

Jake Burger, the new first baseman for the Rangers, is a proud father to a newborn daughter and plans to honor her during every game.

On Friday, he announced that he will wear No. 21 as a tribute to his daughter, Penelope, who was born with Down Syndrome, aiming to raise awareness for the condition.

Penelope was born on October 25 with the genetic known as Trisomy 21, which refers to the extra copy of the 21st chromosome.

“This is the first time I can choose a number that resonates not only with me but with many others,” Burger shared with reporters at a Rangers banquet. “It’s about spreading awareness and informing people about Down syndrome and available support.”
