Jake Burger of the Rangers will don No. 21 to promote Down Syndrome awareness and honor his newborn daughter

“I’m really proud of this number and excited to wear it to represent my daughter and many others out there.”

While Penelope is doing well, she will require open-heart surgery in the coming months, and Burger, 28, mentioned he will take a short leave during spring training to support his family through the procedure.

“She’s the strongest little person I know, and I believe she’ll get through it easily,” Burger said.

Acquired from the Marlins in a December trade, Burger also revealed that he and his wife, Ashlyn, plan to establish a foundation dedicated to research and support for Down Syndrome. The couple also has a 2-year-old son, Brooks.
