When Texas Rangers infielder Jake Burger and his wife, Ashlyn, learned they were expecting a daughter in April 2024, they received another important piece of information.
During the 2024 MLB season, Ashlyn FaceTimed Jake to share her test results. As she read through the genetic information, one statistic stood out: “Trisomy 21: 99.99%.”
“Ashlyn, our little girl is going to have Down syndrome,” she informed him.
“OK, and?” Jake responded casually.
At that time, Ashlyn was 10 weeks pregnant, grappling with numerous questions about what this would mean for their family and Jake’s baseball career.
“OK, we’ll figure it out,” Jake reassured his worried wife.
Since welcoming their daughter Penelope on October 25, the Burgers have realized that they will not only navigate this journey but also thrive in it.
