A$AP Rocky’s lawyer has revealed the wild way the rapper and his partner Rihanna honoured him for his work.
Rocky, 36 – real name Rakim Athelaston Mayers – has been in court fighting two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm against A$AP Relli during an alleged 2021 confrontation, and refused a plea deal on the charges, which would have seen him behind bars for only 180 days.

Despite the greatly reduced sentence offered, the musician maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to both charges, and was finally found not guilty on Tuesday in a very high-profile hearing.
Had Rocky been found guilty of the charges, he may have been facing 24 years behind bars – and missed out on seeing his two children grow up. The star shares sons RZA, two, and Riot Rose, one, with Rihanna, and the doting dad made it clear that he was terrified to go to jail and leave his family behind.
Rocky was represented by lawyer Joe Tacopina in the lengthy case, and Tacopina has shared the way Rocky thanked him for saving him from being taken from the young boys.
“Rihanna and Rocky said to me in the courtroom yesterday, they grabbed me and they said, ‘Listen, our next baby is A$AP Joe,’” the lawyer told Extra. He added that Rocky told him he “loved” him, and called him “family” while sharing his gratitude after the hearing.
While naming an unborn baby after a lawyer might sound extreme, Tacopina explained that his bond with Rocky and Rihanna goes beyond the courtroom, and that his work for the couple has brought him more closely into their family life.
He told the publication that at the 2023 Super Bowl – when Rihanna revealed her second pregnancy while performing at the halftime show – he “wound up accidentally babysitting for the first child.”
Tacopina described how Rocky was there with RZA while his other half prepared for her show, and asked the lawyer whether he’d be willing to look after his baby so that he could glam up with a pedicure. “So I babysat for an hour and a half. There was a different type of relationship with him than with most clients,” Tacopina summarised.
This was evident even before Rocky received his not guilty verdict, and entered the courtroom not knowing whether he’d walk out a free man or in cuffs. Tacopina said the singer took a moment to take him to one side, and said, “‘Joe, I want you to know I know how hard you fought here. I know everything you’ve done, and I just appreciate you so much. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me… and we’re in this together no matter what, and I love you.’”
