Talinda, the widow of Chester Bennington, has expressed her admiration for Emily Armstrong, the new singer for Linkin Park.
Talinda posted a sequence of fire emojis in an Instagram remark beneath an Armstrong photo, ostensibly endorsing the new singer. It comes after the band announced last Thursday, September 5, that they will be making a live-streamed homecoming.
In the tweet Talinda commented on, Armstrong thanked fans for the “love and support” she’s received since the news broke. Armstrong joined the band as a replacement for former leader Bennington, who passed away by suicide in 2017.
While fans and other musicians first reacted favorably to Linkin Park’s new layout, controversy quickly surfaced when it was revealed that Armstrong appeared to have connections to both convicted rapist Danny Masterson and Scientology.
This came to light when a note that former At The Drive-In frontman Cedric Bixler-Zavala and member of the Mars Volta addressed to the singer was reposted on social media.
In his subsequent remarks, Jamie, Chester Bennington’s son, accused Mike Shinoda of “quietly eras[ing] my father’s life and legacy in real time […] during international suicide prevention month” and claimed that Linkin Park fans had been “aggressive” toward him ever since he shared criticism of the band.
Talinda has turned into a mental health champion since Chester’s suicide, using her position to raise awareness of the warning flags she observed prior to the musician’s passing. She admitted to CNN in 2018 that “I am now more educated about those signs, but they were definitely there: the hopelessness, the change of behavior, and the isolation.”
All of that was a part of our everyday existence. There were occasionally more indications than others. Occasionally, they weren’t present at all,” she added.
